I really don’t have a lot of time on my hands anymore to post as much as I used to due to work and my 6 month old son, but I had to throw this one out for you guys today.
Last year I used New England as my “If I were to have a GOY investment this would be it.” We sided with New England over Houston easily covering the spread and winning 41-28.
This year we are using New England again, but we will be siding against them. Today we are backing the Saints in New England. We bought the ½ to get the number to 3, but we should not need the points today.
New England sits at 4-1, but it is an unimpressive 4-1 to say the least. Their wins came against Buffalo 23-21, NY Jets 13-10, Tampa Bay 23-3 and Atlanta 30-23. Their only loss was to Cincy on the road 13-6. So as you can see 4-1 is not that impressive. Especially when you consider the Jets hung 30 on Atlanta also.
The Saints are undefeated so far this year. They defeated Atlanta on the road 23-17, Tampa Bay on the road 16-14, Arizona 31-7, Miami 38-17 and Chicago on the road 26-18. One could argue that New Orleans hasn’t played the toughest schedule so far this season, but they have yet to falter.
This Saints defense is much improved this year and is headed by a man that has the blue print to beat Brady. When Rob “the hair” Ryan headed up the Brown’s defense Cleveland defeated the Patriots and at that point on paper New England had a vastly superior team. Brady used to love the opposing defense to blitz because he was able to beat it time after time. That was because he had chemistry with Welker, Hernandez and Gronk. Now he relies on Edelman and just returning Danny Amendola. Ryan should be able to take away these guys and make Brady continue to throw to the rookies which has been downright frustrating for the golden boy.
Last week the Brees was 16 for 17 with passes to the running backs and 10 for 11 to Jimmy Graham. Brees’s QB rating was 120. New England has no answer for the Saint’s offense. If New England shuts down Graham or Colston with Talib then that’s fine Brees will take whatever is available and eat up short yardage marching down the field with the backs. Compile this with the loss of Big Vince and now Tommy Kelly New England’s defense is thin up front and in for long day. I can’t wait to watch Spikes trying to catch Sproles, should be entertaining.
Hate predicting scores, but if I had to I lean towards Saints 27 Pats 20.
